What on earth are the BBC doing trying to lead their news programmes with out of context emails? Even more disgraceful was their reporting that they couldn't report something they have been banned from reporting. This is just macho bullshit after their Hutton inquiry fuck up.

This is nothing to do with Levy or Turner; they have already been arrested so why issue and injunction now?
I suspect it is something to do with Bliar, perhaps he has been interviewed for a third time, and this time it is under caution. This would mean that he would be contemplating resignation and would need a little time to prepare the Government to be ripped apart.
I can think of few other things that could have hymee running to get an injunction.
Better to have been in the pub tonight than in a certain well-known restaurant in Kensington Park Road, where my better half and myself were treated to half an hour of a former Labour leader holding forth on his own virtues and alternated with burps, hiccups and farts. Put up with it until 10.00 and told the management that I expected at least 50% knocked off the bill and they could send it to the bloated windbag at the next table.
Labour MP's should certainly not be let out in polite society without at least one minder and a decent colostomy bag.

I agree with anonymous 10.35: Guido can't claim that "The email is news to the BBC, not readers of this blog". A teasing picture of a smoking gun does not tell us an email has been found. If you want credit in future, Guido, you need to find bigger balls.
To all the other bloggers assuming that the AG has had this suppressed this for his mate Tony, give the man a break. He's doing it at the request of the police - the guys on our side, remember?
Many of the leaks in this enquiry have come from Blair's official spokesmen and there's a good reason for that. By selectively releasing bits of information they can maintan some influence over journalisgts and try to limit the political damage. Also, if they're lucky, undermine the police's evidence.
Have to disagree with your conclusion. I think that other evidence is floating around.
If the Police called for the injunction rather than just an embargo as they did last time, then that makes me think that its someone more senior.
Judging by the number of trolls and NuLab astroturfers to have hit this site this evening, something they tend to do when Brown or treasury bad news is about, this leads me to think that this could involve Gordo.

a million pieces - I first encountered Guido when trying to find out what was the Blair family secret that the media had agreed not to report (which, incidentally I heard referenced, much, much later, on a Five Live phone in - you could also hear the presenter/editor have a kitten as they realised what the caller had just said). Since then I have learned an amount of stuff about Westminser and UK politics from GF but it has tailed off significantly. Recently there is neither humour or disclosure and my visits have reduced significantly. Tonight's CFH injunction story made me head straight for here and what do i find? If this transpires to be on behalf of the Labour party rather than Government, then one assumes that taxpayer money should not/was not used in obtaining the injunction.?

So what could the injunction be about? I reckon Bliar has been interviewed under caution and this information was to be suppressed to avoid putting the cops in the awkward positions of going easy on a suspect or bringing down a government.
The reason the leaks have stopped will be that the investigation is reaching a conclusion and therefore there will be no briefings to the Public Administration Select Committee, members of whom are probably the major leakers.

I have a theory. Whatever this turns out to be,
Robinson, was leaked to by Number 10 something, possibly an Email. So they could discredit the Police investigation, and accuse the police of leaking, so weaken any possible future prosecution. The Police found out about it, and they then issued the injuction, thus hopefully cutting off one escape route out of a court case. Discuss. kf

Here's what we do- Get BBC Scotland or Scottish TV or the Glasgow Herald etc to run the story. Its a different legal system and the Attorney General has no jurisdiction. The Lord Advocate might but it would be difficult to convince a Scottish Judge to grant an Interim Interdict. Anyway the Lib-Lab pact are incaple of acting quickly.

I don't actually think that people close to the enquiry in the Met have been leaking, in fact I am amazed that so many details have remained quiet for so lone. Just look at the way that they were able to keep a lid on the fact that Blair had been interviewed again until they gave the green light for it to be released. Also think that it has been too convenient that these dishonest spin merchants have been very free with their attacks on the police over their alleged leaking.

A Downing Street source told PA that the first No 10 knew that an injunction had either been sought or granted was when they saw the 10 O'Clock News.
The Metropolitan Police issued an identical statement to that made by the Attorney General's office.
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell said that the implication of tonight's injunction was that Lord Goldsmith thought it possible there may be a prosecution in the cash-for-honours affair.

OK, we now know that the Met applied for the injunction. But why was the application made by the Attorney-General and not the Director of Public Prosecutions?

There must have been two leaks. First the e-mail was leaked to the BBC. (We don't know when. Could have been weeks ago.) Then someone leaked the fact that the BBC was about to broadcast it, presumably on one of yesterday evening's bulletins.
The Met may not know who leaked the e-mail to the BBC, or when. It could have been one of their own officers or possibly some disaffected man or woman at Downing Street.
At this stage, therefore, we can draw only three conclusions:
1) Contrary to what the spin doctors would have us believe, Yates is NOT leaking info. in the hope of embarrassing No. 10. On the contrary he is trying to keep the enquiry under wraps.
2) Downing Street is (still) furious. That's "furious" as in shit scared.
3) The four main suspects probably each have their own lawyers and will not hesitate to dump on each other when the going gets rough.

The results can only be imagined. FAC would have gone ballistic, accused Kelly of misleading behaviour and would have had him pack in for anotrher grilling pronto.
If I knew that Gilligan was going to shop me and that I'd be dragged through the mire again, I'd be wanting to take myself off for a walk.

I suspect it is something to do with Bliar, perhaps he has been interviewed for a third time, and this time it is under caution. This would mean that he would be contemplating resignation and would need a little time to prepare the Government to be ripped apart.
I can think of few other things that could have hymee running to get an injunction.
Better to have been in the pub tonight than in a certain well-known restaurant in Kensington Park Road, where my better half and myself were treated to half an hour of a former Labour leader holding forth on his own virtues and alternated with burps, hiccups and farts. Put up with it until 10.00 and told the management that I expected at least 50% knocked off the bill and they could send it to the bloated windbag at the next table.

Many of the leaks in this enquiry have come from Blair's official spokesmen and there's a good reason for that. By selectively releasing bits of information they can maintan some influence over journalisgts and try to limit the political damage. Also, if they're lucky, undermine the police's evidence.

If the Police called for the injunction rather than just an embargo as they did last time, then that makes me think that its someone more senior.
Judging by the number of trolls and NuLab astroturfers to have hit this site this evening, something they tend to do when Brown or treasury bad news is about, this leads me to think that this could involve Gordo.
ianp - the difference this time is that the media already had the story. The embargo only worked because the lobby didn't know that Blair had been questioned, and so didn't know that there was anything to report on.
a million pieces - I first encountered Guido when trying to find out what was the Blair family secret that the media had agreed not to report (which, incidentally I heard referenced, much, much later, on a Five Live phone in - you could also hear the presenter/editor have a kitten as they realised what the caller had just said). Since then I have learned an amount of stuff about Westminser and UK politics from GF but it has tailed off significantly. Recently there is neither humour or disclosure and my visits have reduced significantly. Tonight's CFH injunction story made me head straight for here and what do i find? So what could the injunction be about? I reckon Bliar has been interviewed under caution and this information was to be suppressed to avoid putting the cops in the awkward positions of going easy on a suspect or bringing down a government.
The reason the leaks have stopped will be that the investigation is reaching a conclusion and therefore there will be no briefings to the Public Administration Select Committee, members of whom are probably the major leakers.

I have a theory.
Whatever this turns out to be,
Robinson, was leaked to by Number 10 something, possibly an Email.
So they could discredit the Police investigation, and accuse the police of leaking, so weaken any possible future prosecution.
The Police found out about it, and they then issued the injuction, thus hopefully cutting off one escape route out of a court case.

I must admit that I have been thinking along those lines more and more recently.
I don't actually think that people close to the enquiry in the Met have been leaking, in fact I am amazed that so many details have remained quiet for so lone. Just look at the way that they were able to keep a lid on the fact that Blair had been interviewed again until they gave the green light for it to be released.
Also think that it has been too convenient that these dishonest spin merchants have been very free with their attacks on the police over their alleged leaking.

A Downing Street source told PA that the first No 10 knew that an injunction had either been sought or granted was when they saw the 10 O'Clock News.
The Metropolitan Police issued an identical statement to that made by the Attorney General's office.
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell said that the implication of tonight's injunction was that Lord Goldsmith thought it possible there may be a prosecution in the cash-for-honours affair.
Sir Menzies told BBC2's Newsnight: "The important thing to remember is that the Attorney General acts in the public interest and in particular he has an interest to ensure that no possible prosecution is prejudiced and no possible defence is prejudiced."

The Attorney General has obtained an injunction against the BBC to stop it broadcasting an item about the cash for honours investigation.

Have reporters within the BBC being disseminating 'leaked' insights into the police investigation so as to, knowingly, compromise a trial/the possibility of a trial? The judges, by granting an injunction, would seem to think that this is a possibility.
Perhaps we should look away from events at No 10, albeit briefly, and look more closely at how these 'leaks' have been handled at the Beeb. Perhaps the police, too, might be making some enquiries in this direction? Has anyone followed the details of this story? Who has been getting the 'leaks' first? Let's name the names.

OK, we now know that the Met applied for the injunction. But why was the application made by the Attorney-General and not the Director of Public Prosecutions?
The hearing is said to have taken two hours; quite long for an interim injunction. (Twenty minutes would be more usual.) This suggests that the BBC had been notified of the application, were represented, and contested the case.
There must have been two leaks. First the e-mail was leaked to the BBC. (We don't know when. Could have been weeks ago.) Then someone leaked the fact that the BBC was about to broadcast it, presumably on one of yesterday evening's bulletins.
The Met may not know who leaked the e-mail to the BBC, or when. It could have been one of their own officers or possibly some disaffected man or woman at Downing Street.
At this stage, therefore, we can draw only three conclusions:
1) Contrary to what the spin doctors would have us believe, Yates is NOT leaking info. in the hope of embarrassing No. 10. On the contrary he is trying to keep the enquiry under wraps.
2) Downing Street is (still) furious. That's "furious" as in shit scared.
3) The four main suspects probably each have their own lawyers and will not hesitate to dump on each other when the going gets rough.
Robinson just on Today really just repeated this blogs 'factual' conclusions of last night incl Ming's inputs. Said definately expected more interviews. Said surprised at fact of statement(s) from AG last night.
The perverting course justice line could just have arrisen due to leaking, not necessarily document non disclosure or possibly both.
From my limited experience plod needs & deserves the best possible support from all sources. This 'beyond reasonable doubt' stuff is not easy & the other parties have probably access to the best criminal law advisors around (outside of Government).
morrisox - with respect to Guido, the difference is the BBC is watched/heard by millions whereas this blog is limited to a select few. It's not a criticism; it's true. Are potential juror's likely to be regulars on here? That's what it comes down to. Prejudice can't be taken too far otherwise most pub conversations would scupper trials.

Don't panic. These "now impossible for defendant to have a fair trial" arguments rarely succeed. In fact I can't recall an occasion in recent times where the argument has succeeded. They may run the argument, of course, but in my opinion it will avail them nothing.
I agree. If the Home secretary can hold a press conference on the day suspected terrorists are arrested and say: "we have foiled a dangerous plot to kill thousands of people" and that not be prejudice then we're still ok.

1) The police. Have to be someone junior, drunk or very stupid. If this enquiry doesn't end up with a water tight case against someone it'll be South Georgia traffic management for all involved.

Lawyers are involved in every item that goes out, and the moment the he or she saw the plan they'll have called in the legal team and would have had to inform outsiders. This is standard practice - partly because it gives them a fair chance to respond (very impt if ever there is a complaint) and partly in case legalities are being breached.

If the police were that sensitive then half of pub conversations would be contempt.

Who said Bring Back Gilligan?
Gilligan it was who went before the Foreign Affairs Committee for a second time on the day that David Kelly went for his walk in the woods.
Glligan had been before the FAC the first time and had refused to reveal his source. Kelly then went before FAC and was questioned. After that, FAC issued a report saying that Kelly was not the source for the Gilligan claims.
Kelly would have been mortified by this, as he knew he was the source for Gilligan. When Gilligan was hauled back before FAC, Kelly would have judged that Gilligan would crack and confess that he was indeed his source.
The results can only be imagined. FAC would have gone ballistic, accused Kelly of misleading behaviour and would have had him pack in for anotrher grilling pronto.
If I knew that Gilligan was going to shop me and that I'd be dragged through the mire again, I'd be wanting to take myself off for a walk.
