One thing would be food . I have seen figures as high as £20 bio quoted and £5bio at the low end . We spend £53 bio on food and £60 bio on gambling . Puts it is perspective eh..I daresay those wonks will come up with a lot of tedious gunge as usual though. Things I can do with a calculator...oo yes how clever.

BTW I have a post entitled Waiting for Guido. Am I the first to think of it ?

Why can`t we all just have the biggest fuck off party in the history of the world with the cash

Happily, Liberal Democrats are unlikely to change their mind on the issue...

Because all the riff-raff would come?

We have to share the proceeds of growth remember. With who or how is yet to be defined, but share nonetheless.

The latest projections for the Olympics look like it could easily swallow this cash with room for an aperitif too.

Identity thieves don't want ID cards. Benefit fraudsters don't want them. Illegal immigrants don't want them. Sellers of stolen, 'lost' or counterfeit passports don't want them. Foreigners who misuse the NHS don't want them. People traffickers don't want them. And the Tories don't want them. So now we know they represent the interests of a load of crooks.

You mean all those grouips that have prospered under this crap government dont want them. I fail to see NuLab credibility on any of the issues you raise.

Newmania said...

According to Private Eye these increases in the Olympic bill are in fact staged announcements of the originally known position .

...anyway CU you note we spend £60,bio on gambling .Fortunately the stupid poor are going to be bamboozled once again into coughing up their stout money for lottery dreams which are spent astonishingly like tax revenue.

Will they never learn

We aren`t going to win anything anyway unless there is a who is the fattest rudest most bestial malododrous brain- dead piece of human offal contest?

You pathetic little New Labour gobshite.

The criminals, illegal immigrants and the rest of the scumbags couldn't give a flying fuck if we have identity cards or not. They will get around them easily enough just like illegal immigrants flood into the country at will now, and just like millions drive on the roads every day without licences, insurance, or tax with no real attempt to stop them.

It's obvious who will be persecuted and taxed over ID cards and that's the ordinary law abiding British citizen. The group New Labour sees as the enemy and a milch cow for Gordon.

Do you ever consider how the process of issuing the cards will be carried out?
Somehow cards have to be provided for 60 million people. 90% currently have good collateral ID to issue card on. Driving licence, passport, bank account etc etc
What about the other 10% What do you do about a dosser who hasn't had a job for years, can't remember his NI number if he ever had one and who's name is whatever he makes up?
The issue of ID cards is going to be the biggest bonanza for ID fraud going. If you can trade that fraudulent benefit book up into an ID card the magic door opens to bank accounts, credit cards, store cards.....This will be the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow for fraudsters.

Bryan Appleyard said...

Baffling discussion. Health tourism is, surely, the only thing ID cards could reasonably be expected to stop. Otherwise they represent more gold with which to stuff the mouths of management consultants.

"Identity thieves don't want ID cards."

They do, yer thick get - it makes identity theft more valuable ... and hence a bigger target for theft.

Every car has a licence and the DVLA ,as we know has Hal`s evil brood of super computers monitoring us . The number of unlicensed vehicles resolutely continues to climb steeply , so why on earth would we imagine that ID cards will work.

They will not.

Well it depends whether you think an online handle is a name or not. Ministers steadfastly refused to define "any name by which he has been known" which is what's going to be recorded on the register, and Reid's current angemflogem control fantasy is logging everyone's IP address and chatroom handle just in case they might be a witch... er, paedophile.

I've been nice to Lib Dems for some time now. If there's a hung Parliament, the Tories will need to be about a million votes ahead of Labour at least. We don't need to think about the details, just treat Lib Dems like human beings.

Steve Hilton said...

It is likely there will be a Lib - Tory alliance if we come close to a hung Parliament at the next election. Vote Tory get Liberal!

How are they going to isue ID cards to the millions of immigrants who don't even speak English? Don't you think they might get a bit concerned when they are herded into Home Office vans and driven to the ID processing centre? Telling them they are being taken to a better life in Newlabourland will hardly quell their suspicions.

Praguetory said...

Bhown - Des Smith is a disgrace, but he is a headmaster FFS. Criminal intent isn't enough.

Steve Hilton said...

Praguetory, I thought the line was that Des Smith, by apparently offering a knighthood for the sponsorship of an Academy School, was part of the corrupt new Labour cabal around Blair? As more people are proven not to have done anything illegal, will new theories of about a) pressure on the CPS b) an efficient cover-up come to light. I imagine the hero-worship of Yates on this board will sour very quickly.

But they are not human beings Praguetory and 4/5 of the Party agree so it isn`t going to happen. Forget it . you might as well treat them as the traitorous auto eroticists they , in fact , are . I `d rather have an alliance with some of the Blairites, the Lib Dems should be hunted down like animals until scared and shivering they are torn to pieces by a merciless pack.

That is my Policy on Lib Dums and it puts me in the centre of Conservative thinking.

( You of all people P..tsk tsk)

Clearly ID cards should be rejected as they are much too liberal.

What we need is to have a computer chip inserted under the skin. People then won’t be able to say they have left it behind.

With new technology hopefully this chip will also have satellite tracking so Gordon can know where we are when away from our road priced cars. This surely will be justified to prevent fraud as its well known that people are lying on their tax credit forms to say they are living alone when they are really living together.

With a national database we can also prevent lone mothers saying they do not know who the father of a child is to defraud the benefits agency as “The State” will be able to work it out from the DNA of the child and mother.

After all you have nothing to fear as long as you haven’t done anything wrong.

Only if there's a hung parliament. Given the thirst among the public for a Conservative government that's hardly likely.

Imagine if there were enough grownup politicians within the Tory and the Lib Dems to actually come to an agreement?

All they would have to do is to be nice to each other for about 18 months and get into power. The deal should allow both parties at least 3 things that who happen on their watch to try and help the country back on its feet - one of them being the introduction of a new public sport. The public burning of NU Labour MP's every Saturday Night - the idea being that if they didn't burn within 30 minutes of being lit, they would be innocent of being a part of the NuLab experiment!
I know its too sensible to ever happen - but it would be nice!

Newmania said...

All praise to the gilded gamine chalice of Purity Cameron for getting back into their territory.
Getting over 40% will be tough though especially in the marginals where everyone is getting paid millions for shining a Coucillor`s car.

THE MANIFESTO THAT, IF OFFERED, WILL GUARANTEE THE TORIES A LANDSLIDE IN THE NEXT ELECTION:

1) Promise to divide HM Revenue and Customs back into two separate bodies - Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise.

2) Repeal the Consolidate Fund Act 2005, stripping the Treasury of the power to issue funds out of the Consolidated Fund.

3) Scrap plans for a Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, restoring its power to the Law Lords.

4) Revoke the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, giving choice back to business.

5) Scrap plans for "super casinos".

6) Replace the rail watchdog group Passenger Focus with a series of geographically separated groups.

7) Revoke all pardons given to soldiers executed for cowardice and other offences during the First World War.

8) Scrap the Consmer Credit Act 2006.

9) Increase the age of candidacy for public elections from 18 to 21.

10) End the proposed Commission on Equality and Human Rights.

With those 10 policies, there won't be any need for a coalition with the Liberals - it should GUARANTEE a massive majority. We should not be afraid to give people what they want.

"Health tourism is, surely, the only thing ID cards could reasonably be expected to stop."

Most Health Tourists are and are likely to be going overseas to get those things done that the NHS cannot reasonably do. How would ID cards stop that?

Anonymous said...

Yes Guido the Tory grassroot are talking about a coalition with the LibDems on Conservativehome.com and they are just about all strongly against it. Know why? Because you can always tell when a LibDem is lying, because their lips are moving.

Really Matt? Strange, I thought the Lib Dems were telling the truth when they said they were against ID Cards and wouldn't have introduced them, and it was the Tories who are LYING now with their claim they'd scrap them. Bollocks would you.

"Why can`t we all just have the biggest fuck off party in the history of the world with the cash "

ID cards won't work. The Gov will never bother to make a proper effort to ensure that the data used to create the cards in the first place is correct.

Therefore every little oik that wants a fake identity will turn up to Tony's ID card service and use their existing fake documentation to get a 'real' ID.

So the scum probably want ID cards too.

Unknown said...

1) Promise to divide HM Revenue and Customs back into two separate bodies - Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise.

This would make no difference except for re employing more officials. (Not so many left as a result of the merger but more would definately be re-employed). Any way they have been sharing data for years.

2) Repeal the Consolidate Fund Act 2005, stripping the Treasury of the power to issue funds out of the Consolidated Fund.

Hardly a crowd pleaser!

3) Scrap plans for a Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, restoring its power to the Law Lords.

Again, not a crowd please but teh very much weakened powers of the Supreme Court will allow for all kinds of future abuses.

4) Revoke the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, giving choice back to business.

Err - never going to happen.

5) Scrap plans for "super casinos".

Why do we want limits? I think we should have as many as the market allows.

6) Replace the rail watchdog group Passenger Focus with a series of geographically separated groups.

Sod that - refund those that had their mone stolen by the nationalisation of railtrack.

7) Revoke all pardons given to soldiers executed for cowardice and other offences during the First World War.

This has little effect other than wding up the relatives of those pardoned (the individuals themselves do not really care).

8) Scrap the Consmer Credit Act 2006.

Again - hardly a vote winner to remove protection from consumers. If this increases lending costs borrow from abroad.

9) Increase the age of candidacy for public elections from 18 to 21.

Reduce the age of voting to 16or scrap income tax for those who cannot vote.

10) End the proposed Commission on Equality and Human Rights.

This is only introduced because Government has ben bitten by the Human Rights Act. Local Council implementation of it and the Data Protection Act make it look like a joke.
