Hey Guido,
A bit techie for a Sunday morning, but have you seen the IOS story on cash for peerages?
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/politics/article2152471.ece
"Cash for honours row over legal advice to civil servants"

It turns out the key advice came from Edmund Lawson QC.
Who just happens to represent the Metropolitan Police at the Diana Inquest!

Can you say "multiple conflict of interest"?

More meat here

Great news. Especially for badgers.

Mr fawkes it would be churlish not to include the erudite
Mr Appleyard on your list of blogs, not only does he lend an air of respectability to your own organ but according to a self penned article in today's Sunday Times the poor chap is practically on his last legs so including him would almost be an act of mercy.

Who is Tim Ireland and what relevance is it to here?

In any event, we are not amused.

You missed Archbishop Cranmer.

His insights are excellent, but he is worthy if only because he writes beautifully in a world of trite blogging soundbites.

Bryan its your damn picture that has led to your expulsion. You are a Grim Reaper viewing us Luddites with amused condecension. Maybe try a pic of a bimbo posing as your wife. Nevertheless Mrs Crackers is a fan and has commanded me to buy your book - she is interested in these matters.

Apropos of nothing, in today's Independent there's a story about Blair getting free upgrades on his flights to and from the USA recently:

"After requesting that he, but not Mrs Blair, receive an upgrade from economy to business class, both were offered complimentary first class tickets. On the return flight Mr Blair was also upgraded from business to first class." (Cherie was not upgraded on that occasion).

I bet Cherie was just delighted with such gentlemanly behaviour from her husband! What an effing cheek.

Anonymous said...

Any truth in the increasing rumours that the Blair's will go their seperate ways after he eventually steps down or is this just another product of Brown's dirty tricks brigade?

Anonymous said...

I think there may be some truth in it, anon 5.55, after his behaviour re upgrading the flights!!

Talking about websites and blogs, I notice that a piece i attached to the wikipedia.org website to do with Hazel Blears her seat and her role in nhs cuts has been chopped again plus they have stopped people from changing it. Bet this is Labour trying to control everything again. The following is not nasty of Liablous just embarassing!!:

A point of contention in Ms Blears constituency is the rationalisation of the health service in this area. As Labour party chair, she took the unprecedented step of strategically planning health service cuts that would be optimised in seats that either did not elect Labour MP’s or would ever be likely to do so. Safe Labour seats were deemed possible targets of cuts whereas marginal Labour seats were seen as crucial to the long-term interest of the government and therefore the Labour Parties parliamentary majority.

The decision to attend such a meeting has caused Ms Blears a local problem in her constituency as it has been short listed for swinging cuts in services and the diversion of financial resources in an experiment that may cost peoples lives. Due to expected boundary changes and the amalgamation of two parliamentary seats which encompasses Ms Blears current seat, she will have to undergo a bloody and vicious contest with rival candidates to be adopted in this new seat.

This has lead Ms Blears to undergo a second unprecedented gesture in actively campaigning against a policy that she had collective cabinet responsibility for and more importantly been the Labour parties representative at the strategic planning stage. Given Ms Blears involvement in cabinet, strategic planning and formally holding the office of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health, her future in parliament is less than assurred.

Superdatabase 'to improve services'
"A huge Whitehall 'superdatabase' of people's personal details would make Government work better and improve public services, Work and Pensions Secretary John Hutton said.
Shami Chakrabarti, from human rights group Liberty, said: "This is an accumulation of our Government's contempt for our privacy. This half-baked proposal would allow an information free-for-all within Government - ripe for disastrous errors and ripe for corruption and fraud."

"A huge Whitehall 'super-database' of people's personal details could be created in what the government says is a bid to improve public services."

Is this a joke? In the aftermath of the Home Office database debacle they announce this?

I must say I was particularly saddened to see that the 'Drinking from Home' blog has finished.

Guido you must find a suitable Islamophobic blog to link to.

A "super data-base" is only likely to have any positive effects on public services if it is operated by a well staffed unit of people who are:
educated and skilled;
give a toss about the quality of their work;
understand and have regard for the ethics of dealing with personal data.

In the current political climate, none of the above is likely to apply. Management of said database would be outsourced to some subsidiary of a US/multi-national company (probably headed by a nulab donor and/or with vacancies for non-executive directors with relevant government experience), employing all sorts of odds and sods on short term contracts.

Like Bryan I'm most hurt that Guido has passed me over for elevation to his goodly blog roll. One is left wonder what one has to do to attract the good man's attention. Post nekkid photies? Have an obsession with Westminster? Cross his palm with silver?

That may be so, but apparently he has a massive ethereal cock shaped like a lump hammer that he uses to terrify the ghosts of Catholic Nuns in the afterlife, the horror that this induces causes him to ejaculate copious quantities of self satisfied ectoplasm.

Anonymous said...

The theme of asking reminds me of the makings of a blogger joke that featured Guido. I don't think you should make C beg. I'll ask in a different way - what do I have to do to get a link?

Anonymous said...

"Croydonian maybe if he had asked... "

Is he meant to beg or something??

Perhaps if Phoney Toney had a blog he would tell us how his 'Troops are Culling and his Tanks are Rolling'? Just a thought..

Caroline Hunt said...

PragueTory said: I'll ask in a different way - what do I have to do to get a link?

Well I found asking helped. That and working on improving the standard of my blog.

I am not a "wet" by the way - just a bit nutty on gay rights. Pretty sound on everything else.

And yes I think everyone has got the joke with my surname now - you'll be asking if I have a brother called Mike next.

Thank you ever so much Mr Fawkes for the link - yours, gratefully as ever, Ms Hunt

You seem to have an unhealthy obsession with gayers.
please note , fag haggary is not an appealing qaulity in a woman , and should wish to have any chance of snagging a husband I suggest that you mend your ways.

Praguetory said...

I missed the joke Caroline? I will not "ask" Guido for a link (you obviously got him on a good day) and improving the standard of my blog sounds a bit boring. I expect to be made to work for a Guido link. I expect Mr Fawkes to issue a challenge/throw down the gauntlet as in days of yore.

Caroline Hunt said...

If Mr Hitchens I ever wish to "snag a husband" in the near future I shall be sure to contact you for what is clearly invaluable advice.

Anonymous said...

Ms Hunt
You are most welcome (+:
I fear for your chances if you continue to socialise with young Conservative boys and gayers (usually one and the same) may be we could fix you up with a nice soldier or Navy man?
The opportunities for a decent young woman to find a suitable partner are in such short supply these days I fear you my end up having to advertise on hotornot unless you get a hurry up.
I would consider giving you a whirl myself if it wasn't for your dangerously liberal opinions.
Never mind its your loss, but just remember that biological clock is ticking.

I expect to be made to work for a Guido link. I expect Mr Fawkes to issue a challenge/throw down the gauntlet as in days of yore.

He will do no such thing. If he agrees with you, he finds you congenial and you share in his communion. If he does not agree with you, you are a bigot and you are excluded from communion.

Typical Papist.

You censor your own blog far more than Guido does, he allows you to post here accusing him of being an alcohol abusing drug crazed gay loving friend of the pope (all true) without complaint.
I don't know, maybe Guido finds you to be little Mr Congeniality (+:
Guido, bearing in mind the social illiberalism of the no doubt formidable Mrs Fawkes are you sure that "Cranmer" isn't herself just having a bit of a laugh?

Anonymous said...

"Cranmer is a boring bigot"

Sir, that remark is needlessly offensive. Archbishop Cranmer is not a bigot, but a believer -- and a keen advocate of free speech. His blog will be of interest to the many libertarians among your correspondents.

Mr Hitchens,

The facts:

His Grace has never accused Mr Fawkes of being any of the above. You fabricate to entertain, which may be no bad thing on a tedious Monday evening.
His Grace has only censored three posts since his blog's inception, all from the same person. Mr Fawkes must have censored hundreds.
Mr Fawkes is more than welcome to accuse His Grace of whatever he sees fit, provided there is cognisance of His Grace's demands for intelligence and erudition.
