It is an established part of the constitution that the A-G is a political appointment and may ask political colleagues for their views on whether to continue or institute criminal proceedings. This was what happened during the Campbell case in August 1924.

Note that on the BBC website, Ruthie was arrested at home at 0630 and (we assume) taken to a Nick to be questioned. Much heavier tactics.... This is a lot more serious than Levy arriving at an agreed appointment with Yates at a Nick and then being arrested. If I was Ruthie I'd be very very worried. I assume she is out under bail and has surrendered her passport?

To my mind this one could have more long-term consequences than the Ermine for Vermin brou-haha. That was onnly money - this could eviscerate NuLab. It could open up Iraq WMD all over again, the BAe stuff (which is probably what's triggered this) - and with luck get a full investigation in Coroner's Court for the David Kelly whitewash.

The Attorney General would form part of Blair's escape route if the going got tough.
Since when at 6.30am a "dawn raid"? OK, it may be techinically true (in fact 0630h is well pre-Dawn in London at the moment) but plenty of people are up by then.
I was most of the way to work by then this morning.

When the filth really want to fuck up someone's day they show at 3-4am. For a hard-working person, 6.30am is about as late as they could possibly show and be near-guaranteed to find them in.

Why the hell do people think that getting Turner at 6.30am is unfair! They had to make sure they got her before she left for work. Would they rather the police turned up at the government offices where she works? (is it actually at number 10?) That would have been a lot more theatrical and a helluva lot more embarrasing for this rotten regime.
