if you look at this graph you can clearly see a spike in interest around the John Prescott affair(s) during the summer - and the overall trend of the graph is upwards - as the blog as become more well known.

im not sure you should be using alexa though, alexa is quite simply rubbish. for example, my own site complete rims you when it comes to things like visitors and page views, i get as many as you and iain combined (not a politics site though so you wont have heard of it). my alexa ranking is much lower because few of these visitors have the alexa toolbar installed. take what alexa says with a pinch of salt, i mean, do YOU know anyone with a toolbar installed? surely you could request the real visitor numbers under the freedom of information act and do a proper comparison then?
