Ronnie Cohen and Gordon

What annoys me is that once the school or whatever has been built they can refinance and make even more Gordonesque profits.

Nice to see somebody is doing well out of the shambles that is PFI. Shame it isn't the patients. Or the clinical staff. Or the taxpayers.

Fcuking daylight robbery.

I really don't see what French Connection have to do with this?

I was thinking "1984 - the musical" would do rather well in the West End at the moment.

All Hail Baron Apax of Golders Green.
Would this be the same Apax/Cohen slagged off for the shambles made of PFI deals and the enormous profits?
What chance that Apax buys Unity Trust or the Co-op?
Seems rather fitting that the 2 have got together. One hopes that Knacker of the Yard is keeping a watching brief.

Aye, Ronnie is a canny man though. He can help Gordon now with a few quid, and I mean a few by his standards. In return he gets a PM in his pocket a la Eccelestone.

Won't be £25 million, my money would be on south of £1 million.

Can't knock him for that. He can see when to call the bottom of the market for Labour. Has he got it right though?

I bloody hope not.

Anonymous 2:47 said it.

It's the Pilfering Fuck-up Initiative and it's now fairly obvious that all the benefits are going into the back pockets of the financiers. They deserve a Knighthood - that way when all those freeloading bastards who have dodgy honours are lined up against the wall, all those associated with this theft of public money will be first to get the Ceaucescu treatment.

Who knows what shady companies ol' Ronnie has invested in over the years.

I reckon this story will run and run...

The "best" bit about PFI is that it is Enronomics. i.e. designed specifically to obscure the clarity of government liability accounting.

If Labour were steering The Titanic and saw the iceberg, they'd hold a magnet near the compass until the 'berg "missed" them.

Cohen is doing what any sensible City operator does. You pay introductory commission. Whats wrong with that. Ok it involves billions and its actually our money thats being dished out by that twat Brown(gold sales expert and ex best friend of fraudster Robinson). With few exceptions all Lab ministers are financial virgins. Beyers and Hewitt prime examples. Brown will square this with his moral compass by the tried and tested 'ends jusify the means' falsehood.

Anonymous said...

Whoa. Now you see it now you don't!

What happened to what was the next Guido headline? Misinformation or some legal difficulty?

Dear boy, that is a bit tantalising. Well you have the attention of all subscribers now, sitting here hitting our "refresh" buttons!

Guido,

Bit cheeky having a Co-op ad on your permalink bar innit.

May I take this opertunity to dissasociate myself from any of the above posts.

To sugest that the wonderfull Mr Brown and the very hansom and respectable Mr Cohen could in any way be a criminal conspiracy that should be subject to public outrage involving long periods of imprisonment is a frightfull fib.

If this is repeated I shall tell the BBC and then you will be really in the do dos. The BBC would never report such unfounded nonsense without permission.

Whatever next, do you have any idear what would happen if the people knew how much of their hard earned spare cash the government just pours down the drain?

Its people like you Guido that give the news media in this Great Socialist Republic of ours a bad reputation. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Anonymous said...

Guido did you enjoy your Guiness weekend.?
We all missed you with moderation on--bloody boring in reality

This is worse than bungs for gongs. That's just fragile egos wanting a bit of stardust in their lives since most do bugger all with the legislative influence they get and don't bother turning up.

This. This is theft of the public's money by abuse of power. Money that ends up marketing Gordo.

Any hack that gets a shit hot accountant to look at how our money is laundered for Gordo's ambition and Ronnie's pool will get big scoop out of this.

Gordon sold the gold at $250 an ounce. The price today is $575. The whole point of a gold reserve is to have non paper money available. In times of major crisis or war, gold is usually the only currency anyone will accept. Gordon gave away our precious strategic reserve.

He literally gave our gold reserves away. WE lost more in that one transactiontional fuckup he made than we lost during the ERM debacle, even given inflation.

Think ourselves lucky this scheister didn't have the bottle to try and take us into the Euro.

plus good old Gordo helped those lovely risk-tackers (risk takers with OTHER peoples' money) by reducing Capital Gains Tax for their "special" investments to 10% as opposed to 40% for "normal" stockmarket investors, who just invest their own money.

The LBO and venture cap boys who collectively "just" invest the Western World's Banking system and the future of capitalism itself. -If they make lots of profit it should only be taxed at 10% it really should. If they make losses, then the implied systemic risk is eveybody else's burden thats only fair - thats nu labour, thats socialism, thats NUMBER WANG!

well Commander you might describe it as a degree of tension between the 'Spirit of 69' and a bunch of t%ssers who are completely up Tony Blair's khyber without a naqib.

Come on Guido! I didn't get any sleep, hitting the refresh button all night. I never thought I would ask this question, but where is your refinement?

Hedgy said...

I think Gordon Brown is far to ethical to take money for favours....

God, I need more sleep.....xx

I agree flogging our gold reserves was a bad ideand especially given the price. I do not think however it is in the same league as the complete ******** the Tories made of the economy in the late 80s nd early 90s which cminated in the ERM debacle.

Grammar ... "too"

I remember being told that the 'ERM Debacle' cost the country £10Billion.It's now become clear it was approx £3Billion.No-one's apologized for misleading the nation--as far as I've seen.(Double figures and a nice round, memorable number was more usefull to some people)?

The great Bill Hicks was wrong on that score. The lying bit is right, but I thought it was the interns that did the rest?

Saw this comment "If Labour were steering The Titanic and saw the iceberg, they'd hold a magnet near the compass until the 'berg "missed" them."

Thought it was good but perhaps more applicable to gov measures of inflation.

However, while scrolling down to leave a comment; I noticed a couple of posts refering to Gordon's disposal of the gold.

Compare this to the Tory's disposal of, say, British Gas.

1) Transparent. Very well advertised (remember Sid). Compare this to Gordon's Gold Sale.

2) Affordable. Shares in British Gas were in affordable chunks. A 12 t oz bar of gold isn't that affordable.

3) Availability. See 2, above. Bear in mind that banks/post offices etc handled British Gas' sale. Cf Gordons Gold sale.

4) Transparency. Sale of Gas shares were transparent. Who the f**k has got the gold???

Now, if Gordon had sold Sovereigns at a 50 % discount to British nationals he would've achieved his pretended aim (idiotic as it was and is) and enriched us (obviously not intended - he's a socialist).

(ps is it permissible to put two or more bids into a Vickery auction?)

People in the list have been saying things like ... 'the whole point of the gold sale' ... etc.

Let Alan Greenspan tell you about the whole point of the gold sale in his 1966 essay Gold and Economic Freedom. Google gives many links to this essay which he has never retracted (Ron Paul asked him if he still agreed with it while he was in office).

Initial quote ... "An almost hysterical antagonism toward the gold standard is one issue which unites statists of all persuasions. They seem to sense-perhaps more clearly and subtly than many consistent defenders of laissez-faire-that gold and economic freedom are inseparable, that the gold standard is an instrument of laissez-faire and that each implies and requires the other.

In order to understand the source of their antagonism, it is necessary first to understand the specific role of gold in a free society."

I know it sounds dry, chaps but stick with it. Here's how it ends ...
"This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the "hidden" confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard."

Look at history and not Labour propoganda you mong.

The WORLD was in the grip of the worst recession in history in the klate eighties early nineties..those fucking Tories took the wholke world with their mimanagement eh? Mong.

People like you seem to forget the benchmark we came FROM just ten years ealier in the late seventies and the state of the economy and UK finances left by Labour don't you? Or doesn't history stretch that far back? Perhaps you can tell us what the biggest interest rates were under Healey and Labour in the mid to late seventies? Would it be too embarassing to to say?

The ERM debacle was ENTIRELY the making of the EU and trying to hitch up the EU fledgling Euro monetary system...Germany lost more than us in that...surprise surprise the French didn't....

I suppsoe you want us in the Euro?

Not in New Labour....

Anonymous said...

The ERM debacle was caused by hitching an incredibly interest rate sensitive economy such as the UK to one where only 40% are homeowners and those that have mortgages have a 15 year fixed rate, i.e. Germany. Defending the ERM parity was the issue - and all political parties were at that point fully committed to the ERM. The markets knew that it was politically and economically untenable, so broke it. Whichever party was in power was going to be blamed. Labour were simply lucky that John Major had just scraped in.

Anonymous said...

If we look back too, Kinnock actually agreed with our involvement with ERM and encouraged Major to be involved.

But iof course with all things Labour, we shouldn't mention that should we?
