What happened to LBC Radio`s Nick Ferrari supposed intention to stand as a Tory mayoral candidate? Generously -proportioned Nick has been running with this idea for months and suddenly all has gone quiet. Perhaps the ex-Sun journalist is too downmarket for Central Office and it will be Norris again(yawn).

Will someone please explain to me, a non-Londoner, why it is really so bad to have Ken Livingstone as a Mayor ? He introduced the much needed traffic management scheme, the congestion charge. He is willing to tell Dastardly Dacre and the rest of the evil, racist, misogynistic cronies at the Daily Mail where to get off. And he got them the Olympics. What's not to like ? Responses from Londoners only, if you please.

Now Dave thinks they're not good enough. Well screw Dave. If any big name strolls in now, Labour can say, "Well, you didn't really want to be mayor of London, did you? Your heart isn't in it. You're a dilettante. You only came in because Dave prodded you."
This is the most amazingly snobbish move and it will backfire. And those other poor candidates who'd been counting down for the list to close have now had the wind knocked out of them. What a stupid and yes, snobbish, move against your own.
What kind of stupid name is "Francis Maude" anyway? She should pick one first name and stick to it.
And a commenter here a couple of days ago nailed it, I think. Can't you just picture Boris sitting on a kitchen chair, both fists clamped around the table leg, screaming "I won't! I won't! Not going!"???
I don't think it'll take him six months, once he realizes the column inches available to the mayor of London. All journalists are size queens.

In my opinion the Tory party could put a rabid dog up against Ken Livingstone and still win big. Ken is now an official Labour candidate, therefore is tied to their fortunes. The mayor has very limited power to do much, and Labour in London has compleatly run out of steam.
Congestion charge is simply seen as a additional driving tax, that if it helps congestion in the CITY of London at all, only helps when no one wants to use the roads much anyway. Buses run better during the day because Ken has covered Londons roads with hundreds of extra and extended bus lanes. However the ever more expensive buses that run on them opperate nearly empty during the day. Ken will lose because he has no idears left except inviteing vicious anti-semitic terrorist promoters to Britains capital city. Not just because of a tide of dissatisfaction with Labour nationaly but also because they are just bored with Kens face and voice.
Strange indead how a party so against everything Thatcher ever did, are so keen on a Thatcherite policy like congestion charge. A tax that hits the poorest people the most and makes no account of ability to pay?
Outside the congestion charge area traffic congestion has become a scandle, whether reported in the media or not. No benifits for ordinary people have been noticed, because there are none. Even for those that never did drive in the first place.
I am lucky I can afford to pay the congestion charge. However a year after the charge started I took to riding my motor cycle from SE22 to EC1 not just to save money , but to cut my journey time from 90 mins to 15 mins one way. I think that says it all.
