Juvenal's comment on who would guard the eunuchs guarding the women rings true even today with a rubber-stamp Parliament of which Mr Lukashenko could be proud

How long before Cameron closes rank with the rest of the establishment and recommends this should be taken out of party hands... Royal Commission... we all stand to lose...plague on all our houses &c &c ?
If all honours bar military medals and some form of long service award were scrapped, we would not have these problems. A friend's father has the Legion d'Honneur which he was given for a series of arms deals in the '70s, so it isn't just dear old Blighty with this issue.
I think though this has surpassed in sheer front anything previously attempted by the great and bent.
The worst thing has been -to my mind-the deafening silence of the Tories.(with deference to Nigel Evans ofr his efforts).
But then I'm not sure there's much of a street fighter in DC.At the moment he should be doing the victory jig over Bliars prone carcass. In reality it seems to me,he's sat in his notting hill bunker not offending anyone.
The Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act 1925 Section 1(2) If any person gives, or agrees or proposes to give, or offers to any person any gift, money or valuable consideration as an inducement or reward for procuring or assisting or endeavouring to procure the grant of a dignity or title of honour to any person, or otherwise in connection with such a grant, he shall be guilty of an offence.
Why does DC need to interrupt when Tony is doing such a good job of digging his own grave?
The hole must be getting so deep now, I'll not be surprise if Tony pops up at the Commonwealth Games sometime soon ...

A viewer on the Daily Politics is obviously an avid reader of yours, Guido. Your post about Norman Baker's written question was read out. And not even a hat-tip! How rude!

In true Alistair Campbell style, the important thing is not to do anything about this, but to be seen to be doing something about this ...

Sad news today - it seems Humphrey the Downing Street cat who was turfed out by Cherie has died.
A spokesman has been quoted as saying it was a sad day when he left Number 10, as it was soon infested with vermin ...
malchance
