Now the magic mushrooms, Guido, explain a lot. Druidism, as you will know, was the ultimate codification of ancient religion in these isles, destroyed by the Romans because of its position as the focus of opposition to their attempt to impose their fascistic rule over what had been warring tribes. However, it has got bugger all to do with a bunch of a*holes gathering at Stonehenge (which predates it) at the wrong time of year....

"to impose their fascistic rule" - my point exactly.

With not to 'much room' to manoeuvre, could this be incitement to religious hatred?

It is always your "point exactly", isn't it Guido? And by the way, Druids do not appear to have used magic mushrooms, although clearly earlier shamans would have. The Druids were a highly organised society operating above a variety of societies.Their knowledge was based on an oral tradition involving memorising enormous "texts". Hardly compatible with drug use. Let's think of them as based on an Oxbridge college system, spreadng out across the land with a number of home bases and unifying the un-unified. Perhaps they used claret or port? Now that is not to say that this move is not fascistic - from, as you will know, the Latin "fasces".....

Druids were better organised shamans, who eventually achieved the status of a proto-state religion. I'm not a scholar of these things.

Not sure about port in ancient Britain, my understanding was it was more likely to be beer and hallucinogenics.

Anyway you are getting a little serious. Some interesting discussion today in the Fawkes household - about the future legality of marketing fresh 'shrooms in pots of earth. Like the way you get fresh live herbs in Waitrose. Or plots of woodland cultivated with 'shrooms.

The Antagonist offers a few musings on the subjects of the ongoing cannabis/psychosis myth, the use of magic mushrooms and other psychoactive plants, and the illogicality and futility of anyone attempting to legislate the ways in which the human animal interacts with its natural habitat.
